Linux doomsday

handgestrickt netzwerk found a discussion in the Linux Kernel Archives about the problems of binary and proprietary vendor drivers for linux

Linux in a binary world... a doomsday scenario

it is interesting to see how vendors could lock out linux from being useful in the future, just because the hardware cannot work on linux or how they can pass the basics of free software by providing binary drivers with license agreements.

another article, which shows the dangers of modern distributors pragmatism can be found here:

Freespire: A Linux Distro For When You Couldn't Care Less About Freedom

some distributors see an advantage in providing binary proprietary software to raise the "market shares" of linux. the problem is, that the modern thoughts about "market shares" are not conforming to the basics of free software. linux is not about "market shares" at all! additionally if you see what stock markets, globalization and "market shares" made of the world, linux is one of the only useful and possible anti-movements.
